The Importance of Giving Thanks to God in Everything. Thanksgiving Homeschool Lessons.

Giving thanks to God is something we, as children of God, should be practicing daily. The Thanksgiving holiday is a time where you can cultivate this even more in your home by applying it in a homeschool lesson. Instead of celebrating a Holiday that is surrounded in conspiracy, Thanksgiving can be a time of immense gratitude toward our Father God. Making Him the focus. In this post you will also find fun activities and new tradition ideas to start with your family.

The bible has many scriptures on giving thanks. It is so important to focus on, not only around the Thanksgiving Holiday, but all year round. To be content. To teach our children the same things.

I know many are looking for the perfect unity study to do with their children in November, and you can find so many cute ones! But when it comes to the sole focus of this Holiday, the only supplies you really need are your bible.

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you

1 Thessalonians 5:18

It is pretty simple. You just open your bible and read! When it comes to lesson planning during the holidays, I want you to make the focus on the main thing. For Thanksgiving, it is a time to remember all that God has done, to show gratitude.

Just like the Israelites had a custom of repeating the story of the Exodus so that all generations would remember what God did, we as the modern day church, need to be sharing those stories of old as well as current events that God has moved in and through our lives.

This does not mean that you have to forsake the lessons on the pilgrims and the Indians. By all means, include this, it is our country’s history! I will encourage you though, as a homeschool mom, to dive deep into this history for facts and illusions. Not everything we were taught growing up was the way it happened.

For us, we celebrate Thanksgiving as a time to remember what God has done in the past year and beyond. What He will do. Our thankfulness and gratitude to our Jehovah Jireh, our Father God who provides.

As mothers, we have that opportunity to teach our children, the next generation, of who God is. He is faithful! How will they know if we don’t share all the good He has done in our lives? Be the living testimony to your family this Thanksgiving.

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Why is it important to give thanks? Because it is the will of God for us to do so. When we are focused on what we are thankful for, our flesh won’t get distracted at all the things we wished we had.

This is especially important for children wanting all the things. Let these lessons carry in to Christmas time. When everyone is wanting this and that, you can redirect their attention on being thankful for the things they do have which will lead to contentment later in life.

He is all we really need. We have all we need in Him.
