The Difference in Knowing the Word of God and Listening to it.
As a mother, raising your children, you need to know the difference in knowing the word of God and listening to it. This can be from outside sources which even include your Pastor. This is a topic that needs to be addressed more in these days due to people being led astray and taking scripture out of context to fit their agenda.
Let’s dive in to a little about the difference in knowing vs listening.
Knowing and Listening. How do you “Hear” the Word of God?
There are so many voices now days! From youtubers gaining influence to friends, family and even your local lead Pastor from church.
Not all of these voices can be bad but it is important that you as a mother, a wife, and the gatekeeper of your home are investing your own time in reading the bible for yourself.
To study scripture is to know it and God.
If you are not in the word, you can not know his voice. You must not dull your senses by only listening to other people’s interpretation of scripture.
By choosing to fill your mind with other’s interpretation you are setting yourself up to be tricked by the enemy…ask me how I know…lessons have definitely been learned. Thank you Lord!
So first, I want you to ask yourself. What percentage of the word is obtained in your life from each source? Do you listen to podcasts, watch youtubers, read devotionals, go to church each Sunday? If any of these is more than getting in the word for yourself, I implore you to think about shifting those percentages.

Why You Need to Know the Word of God for Yourself?
There was a time when I basically put a certain spiritual authority figure on a pedestal. It definitely wasn’t intentional but later on God showed me that I had for sure done it and that it needed to change.
That my dependance on man had gone on long enough and that my complete focus and dependance needed to be on Him. I was in the word for myself during this season but with another lens.
You need the lens of the Lord when you are reading and studying scripture, not someone else’s.
The enemy knows the Word, so you need to know it and know it in context. The context of the history of when it was written.
Don’t stand on a false ideology without knowing that ideology or theology is correct.

Where Do You Start?
So, where do you begin? You can start today just by asking Holy Spirit to help you understand what you are about to read. You can even purchase a study bible that will help even more to put in context what you are reading.
When I say be careful of outside voices, I want to make sure you know that not all are bad. There are many bible scholars out there who know the Word in it’s historical context that are excellent teachers.
God has also appointed some of His people to be teachers. But as scripture says, the Holy Spirit is our teacher as well, so just ask Him to help you understand.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
John 14:26
As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.
1 John 2:27
Let’s Summarize!
So, to summarize the difference in knowing the word of God and listening to it, be strong in the word and build up your foundation!
You do this through reading and studying the word for yourself in it’s historical context of the time it was written. What we modern day people think something means, can be complete night and day from 500BC ancient Israel people.
CONTEXT, CONTEXT, CONTEXT!
Allow the Holy Spirit to be your guide, your teacher, as John writes. When you are born again, He is in you my friend, He is there and He will guide you!
This post isn’t a source of resources for you to find study materials and the best websites and podcasts to listen to on this topic, but rather a launching pad for you to get thinking and get going in that direction on your own with the Lord’s leading.
Opinions on what someone thinks scripture means can be a dangerous thing, and you can not afford to be tricked in believing a false gospel or doctrine.
You owe it to your children, your family, to be on the right side of scripture and to use it as a sword as you combat the enemy daily.
Remember, Jesus in the wilderness? Satan had them verses memorized too but Jesus knew them and what they meant. Same goes for us, know them well and hide them in your heart mama!
