How to Start a Fun Nature Walk Group for Homeschoolers!
Learn how to start a nature walk group of your own if there is not one in your area. Simple tips and ways you can begin planning now for the season ahead. Whether you use a local park, a beach setting or your own backyard the ideas are endless.
Nature Walks for Homeschoolers
First, search for other nature walk groups in your area but if you have none, simply just create your own! We have been hosting one for a little over 3 years now and the community has been growing each time.
Nature walks are a fun way to get the kiddos outside and around others to form relationships and explore the world around them.
They also double for community for homeschool moms who seek out friendships in the homeschool space!

Choosing your Area.
When choosing an area to have your nature walks you need to first see how many people will be attending. Are you wanting to choose one community park and watch the seasons change throughout the year or rotate through different parks in your area?
You can also use your own space or a someone you know that has plenty of woods and interesting features on the property to explore.
Close to the beach? There are tons of things to discuss and explore on the coast with sand dunes, crab species galore, sand and ocean waves.
The ideas are endless, so you choose what is the best fit for what you are trying to accomplish.
How to Find your People?
Facebook groups make it relatively easy to find people who may be searching for what you are offering. Find your local homeschool groups and post in there about what your nature group to garner interest!
People can not find you if you do not share about it!
You can also use word of mouth, so tell your friends and family!
If you are wanting to start small, simply get a few friends together for your walks and see if it grows organically. I’m betting it will!
Planning Activities
You certainly can keep the nature walk a nature walk but if you want to scale up you can choose a theme for each walk and plan an activity accordingly!
This past year I did this and the kids loved it! For our bird theme, we made little bird feeders, then we did a frog lesson and the kids made frogs. You can also incorporate fun experiments as well!
Pinterest has so many ideas to go with your theme of choice!

The Reason for Nature walks – Community.
Regardless of how many walks you plan, once a month or weekly, the main thing is that you are developing community.
We aren’t meant to do life alone. We for sure aren’t meant to do this homeschool thing alone.
Nature walks are a great way to meet new people and reconnect with others. It has been a blessing for me as a homeschool mom to start our local nature walk group and I hope it continues to be fruitful.
