You Need these Fall Nature Activities in your Homeschool!
When you have the opportunity to do Fall nature activities for your homeschool, that is freedom! And there is so much freedom in homeschool!
Take advantage of this with an extended time off of regular studies and just focus on seasonal lessons that go with the cooler temps of Fall.
Here are some ideas to make this season fun and memorable for your kiddos!
5 Fall Inspired Nature Activities
The Fall season brings on pumpkin spice, sweater jackets and hues of red and orange throughout nature…depending on where you live. It is the perfect time to get outdoors after a hot and sweaty summer.
Nature Walks
Here are a few ideas to put in the schedule to get your kiddos out of the house and in nature where their imaginations can run free.
These are by far our favorite! If you are a Charlotte Mason fan, you know how important nature walks are.
Exploring in your own backyard, neighborhood or local park during the Fall season will unearth many questions about this changing season.
You can discuss hibernating insects, find migratory birds, and search for pinecones or acorns. Or, bring a nature journal to record your findings. The ideas are endless here.
There are so many things to find outside!
Don’t forget to tie in biblical aspects as well. The creation story and nature go hand in hand.
Leaf Art
Do you remember doing this as a kid?!
While walking outside, you collect leaves of different shapes and sizes. You then take the leaves and place them under a sheet of paper and use a crayon to color over the top.
When done, you have the imprint of the leaves on your paper!
This activity could be an extended study to go over the types of leaves and trees they came from. Deciduous versus evergreen.
Bonfire or campfire and S’mores
This activity will require Mom or Dad, but seriously. Take time to have fun! S’mores are always a favorite around here.
Make this into a lesson on how to responsibly start a fire and what to do with it once you’re finished. Age appropriately of course.
Visit a Pumpkin Patch
If you have a local farm that grows pumpkins, go and grab some! Make a day of it.
You can then take them home to paint them, do this fun experiment or even bake a home made pie! Yum!
Fall Themed Nature Study
Just a quick Pinterest search and you will find many super cute and fun Fall nature studies!
Here is a sweet one from the Peaceful Press!
You can also DIY a nature study by learning the anatomy of a pumpkin ( make it hands on by cutting them open), or apple and then making a yummy dessert afterwards!
There is Always Something to Learn in Nature.
Whether you go on a walk in the woods, local park, farm or your own backyard, there are lessons to be learned.
Creation is the proof of God’s goodness. The beauty and the wonder, all point back to Him. Make sure that you are not only having fun but showing your children what a mighty God we have and that even though we are but small compared to this giant world, He loves us BIG.
Anything in nature can turn into an opportunity to learn and gain wisdom.
