3 ways You Can Be a Light in Your Own Home as a Mother.

To be a light as a Christian mother, is one of the most important duties we have. In this post you will learn of a few simple ways you can do this every single day, showing your family the light of Christ that lives in you!

Are you confused on ways to show the light of Jesus to your children?

Or, maybe you have an unbelieving husband who you desperately want them to meet Jesus?

Let us first start with your role as a believing wife in the home and what your responsibility is to your children.

Being a light simply means that you are showcasing the characteristics of Christ through every situation you come across in your life. For those around you to witness how you react or don’t react and the love that you show them despite their flaws.

Sounds a bit like how God reacts to us, right?

God gives us grace and mercy, so it is important we give our family the same as we are given. Although sometimes it can be difficult, grace and forgiveness goes along way.

To show our children Christ through how we act helps them to know who He is!

One way to shining bright, is by reading your bible in front of your kiddos. Doing this shows them you value His word and how seriously you take this responsibility as a follower of Christ.

Children imitate what they see. By seeing you open your bible, even when the house is a mess or chaotic will show them the importance of wielding a spiritual sword and knowing how to wield it properly.

Don’t be surprised if you see one or all of your children take out their bible books and stories to copy mama!

Have you ever been treated horribly and the other person never apologized? How did that make you feel?

Your kids feel that weight too!

Any time you make a mistake, like yelling or getting angry, interrupting them, or whatever it is, APOLOGIZE!

This is not only crucial to your relationship with your children but it is also showing the light of Jesus by confessing and forgiving each other when you mess up.

…we know Jesus doesn’t need to confess, but when we confess, apologize and ask for forgiveness, we are displaying a character of a true believer!

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.1 John 1:8-10

Apologizing and asking for forgiveness also teaches our children to do the same. Sibling fights for example. Sometimes you may have to be the one to lead the way in this circumstance and train them in this practice.

Character is everything. If we have the character of Christ, in our actions, reactions, our children will take notice! This is being a light!

Your actions speak louder than words alone!

Does your family see you praising God? Do they hear you pray?

Praising God is one way we love on Him, thanking Him for everything. This shows our children who our God is! It shows them who we trust, who we cling to, who we lean on.

The same goes for prayer. Does your family see you spending time with the Lord in prayer, hearing your requests and not just checking off religious duty boxes? Relationship with our Creator is so important. It’s actually the main thing!

Being a daughter of a King is what we should be striving for.

Let them see that!! Let them see Mommy going after the heart of God!

All 3 things above go for them too! You can’t expect them to obey God when they haven’t been born again, but what you can do is continue to interceded for them in prayer and being a light in your home.

If your children are old enough to understand, have them pray for their Daddy with you. They need to see what a life looks like with and without Jesus.

Do not give up on your husband. (Obviously if you are in a abusive situation seek help) I am mainly referring to a husband who just doesn’t follow Jesus yet and is going his own way.

Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives... 1 Peter 3:1
