Using the Autumn Season to Prepare Hearts.
When the seasons change from Summer to Fall, it can physically feel amazing due to the change in temperatures but at the same time, as mamas, we know what is coming.
The Fall season doesn’t have to be filled to the brim with busyness and stress!
When you are welcoming Fall, I want you to pause and think of the year you are leaving behind and all of the things you have to be thankful for. This fun exercise can ground our families in the Lord if we allow it and quiet all the hustle and bustle before the holidays.
Even if your year wasn’t what you had planned, there are always things we can be thankful for.
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!
1 Chronicles 16:34
God is good, even when life isn’t, even when our circumstances aren’t the best, and even when we can’t see it. He is good! All the time y’all!

Slowing Down in a Busy and Bustling Season.
Here are some ideas of slowing down to prepare hearts for the upcoming festivities. Don’t lose sight of what God is doing in you, in your homeschool and in your family!
- Simplify your homeschool routine. Make your studies light to make room for nature discoveries in cooler weather, baking in the kitchen and just in general coming together to build those relationships by doing something fun.
- Set your schedule ahead of time. This could look like taking a full week off for Thanksgiving and maybe even 2 weeks off for Christmas. One year we even took the entire month of December off to focus on all the Christmas crafts, lessons on the birth of Jesus and baking for our neighbors. Tis’ the season of giving back and showing your children how to be the hands and feet of Jesus!
- Family Devotionals. You may already have a bible lesson packed into your curriculum but if you do not, this is the perfect time to set up a cute little spread of snacks with some tea and read the bible aloud together as a family. Unhurried time spent with the Lord is never wasted. Show your children what truly matters. Get their little hearts prepared for the holidays to come so that they will be more Christ-like instead of worldly….presents and greed and “me me” attitude that surfaces can be squashed with the living word mama!
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
psalm 100:4
If you are wanting specific ideas to help with making Thanksgiving more Christ-centered, you can check out this post to help you prepare now! It’s always important to take the focus off of ourselves and onto our Creator.
Basically, use this time of the year to slow down even more and focus on Jesus. He would want us, as mothers, to pour into our families over being stressed about our holiday meal plans.
The holidays will come and it will all come together, no matter if you are hosting this year or not…I promise! Take it from someone who overcomplicates and can get overwhelmed. That doesn’t serve you or your family.
Instead, put those worries aside and dive more into prayer and building relationships with your kiddos! No one likes a stressed out mama, lol!
